Our goal is to make the recital an organized, exciting experience for everyone involved. It’s a team effort: students, their parents, the teachers, and the director are key players in the show’s success.
To ensure that the students feel confident about their performance, we ask parents and guardians to encourage them to rehearse their recital choreography on a regular basis. A copy of your child’s dance music is available if you bring in a blank cd with the dancer’s name on it. We invite parents to videotape choreography at the end of class to assist the students when practicing at home.
Although rare, alterations are sometimes need after the costumes have been distributed and are the sole responsibility of the student’s parent or guardian.
dancers wear makeup on stage is to make their faces and expressions visible to
the audience. Makeup can emphasize facial features that would otherwise be
washed out by stage lights. All female students should wear makeup for
the recital: earth tone colored lipstick and blush, eye shadow (not blue), and
mascara. Parents of our younger dancers, we respect your discretion and comfort
level when it comes to the application and amount of makeup used. Uniform
hairstyles are required. All tap, jazz, ballet, modern, acro-dance classes must wear their hair in bun. Hip Hop classes ONLY can wear a ponytail. Dancers with short hair must pull their hair
away from the face. Please be sure you have all accessories
and pieces of your costume. Please be
sure to take the costumes out of bags and hang them up so that they are not
wrinkled. Remember, no underwear should
be worn by the female dancers under the tights!!!!
Recital Day Planning
The recital is not a one-day activity. Gather all costumes, accessories, tights, shoes, and makeup several days in advance so you’ll know if something is missing or is not right. Make a checklist of your child’s routines, listing thecostume, tights, shoes, and any accessories, and refer to it to make sure you have all your supplies before going to the theater. Also bring extra hair gel, hairnets for buns, bobby pins, and hairspray. Please do not send your child to the dress rehearsal or recital with snacks or beverages that could stain their costumes. Crackers, energy bars, apples, carrot sticks, and string cheese are good choices. Water is the best beverage; please do not send juice boxes or other sticky beverages. Never give them chocolate bars and please no nuts to accommodate our students who have severe nut allergies.
Tickets are now on sale at the Stars of Dance Studio. Tickets are $15 per seat if purchased prior to the recital and $18 per seat at the door.
Wednesday May 31st, The EGG
4:15pm – Check in for all Creative Movement classes and 4-6 year old tap/ballet/jazz combination classes. These students will be sitting with their parents throughout the rehearsal and recital. The class mom will meet the students and parents at the entrance to the back stage area (to the right of the theatre) once the group is called to the stage for the rehearsal. Parents will be given a bracelet with the students name on it. Only the parent with the security bracelet will be able to pick up the child from the backstage entrance. We will run these class routines from 4:30 – 5:15. From 5:15 –6:00 we will run the finale with the entire studio. Once the finale is complete these classes are free to leave. The parent with the security bracelet will be called up to the stage to check the dancer out with the class parent.
5:00pm – check in for all classes not listed above. Parents or guardians should bring the students to their assigned dressing rooms, where they will be checked in and placed under the supervision of the class mom(s). Students will be supervised by the class parent both backstage and in the student seating section. One parent will be given a security bracelet with the students name on it. Only the parent with the security bracelet will be able to pick up the child at the end of the rehearsal. We will run the routines in show program order. The show order will be posted in the studio in the next few weeks. The rehearsal is estimated to be finished at 8:00pm or shortly thereafter. At the end of the rehearsal, we will call parents to the stage according to class name for the students to be picked up and checked out by the class parent. Parents are not allowed in the dressing rooms once the children have been checked in for the rehearsal.
Participation in the dress rehearsal is mandatory. The dress rehearsal allows the students to become familiar with the auditorium surroundings and feel comfortable with their performance, costume(s), and being onstage. Lighting, music cues, set changes, and all other logistics for an organized and professional performance are rehearsed so that the students make the best impression possible.
One parent or guardian may accompany each student to the dress rehearsal. Please, no siblings who do not dance in the audience. Additional attendees at the dress rehearsal must pay the full cost of a recital ticket ($15)
Saturday June 10th @ 2pm,
Doors will open at 1pm. The same check in and check out policies used at the dress rehearsal will apply to the night of the recital. Parents are not allowed in the dressing rooms after the children have been checked in for the recital. Dancers under the age of 6 (per the previous instruction of teacher) shall remain seated with their parents throughout the show. The parents are responsible for bringing the dancer to the stairs leading to the backstage entrance 5 numbers before their routine. The class parent will then bring the students back stage along with the help of backstage staff. After the finale, parents will be called to the stage by class name. Parents must show security bracelet and sign child out with the class parent.
Video and photography
Please note: No video or flash photography will be allowed at the dress rehearsal or recital. Security guards will ask you to bring any cameras back to your car.
Parents, family members and friends are not permitted backstage or in the dressing rooms during rehearsals or the recital, including during intermission and before and after the show. There is a lot of backstage activity in a limited space, and dressing rooms are private areas. Please remind your family and guests to be respectful of these areas. Those who wish to greet performers after the show or present flowers may do so in the lobby areas.
The Recital Is for Everyone
When everyone puts the children first, the recital experience is one they’ll never forget. We appreciate your compliance with the rules and guidelines and hope that the Stars of Dance annual recital will be as fun and exciting for you as it is for all of our staff. DIRECTIONS TO THE EGG
The principal automobile entrance into the Empire State Plaza is from I-787. Ramps lead directly into underground parking areas. A secondary parking entrance leads from Madison Avenue and South Swan Street.
Parking is available under The Egg and easily accessible via I-787. The V-Lot is generally designated for Egg parking but signs may indicate additional or alternate levels available. Visitors entering the V-Lot are required to show a photo identification and their vehicle is subject to a search.
Typically, there is a $5 per car parking charge, however, in some cases parking is charged on an hourly rate. Once in the V-Lot, take the elevator to the CONCOURSE LEVEL and follow the signs to THE EGG and THE EGG BOX OFFICE.
All Adults must provide photo ID in the parking garage.

Exit Northway at Exit 1. Follow I-90 East to I-787 South to Empire Plaza exit.

Exit from I-90 at B1. Follow I-90 West. After crossing the Hudson River, travel South on I-787 to Empire Plaza exit.
